LION Gillian Darbyshire, Whalley and District Past President, met Prince Charles on his recent visit to the area. The streets were lined with people wishing to take photographs and meet him and Gillian was very lucky to have been in line to shake his hand and wish him well. Prince Charles commented on how cold the weather was that day, as onlookers battled out massive hail to be there that morning. He went on to visit the Shopkeepers and the Market Traders and was presented with some of the local foods, and managed to taste the local Bowland Brewery Hen Harrier and he was given some of the local delicacies to take home with him. Gillian said: “I am delighted that I was there to welcome Prince Charles into Clitheroe, it was exciting to see the Royal Train turn up that day. He was very gracious and even though it was very wet and cold he stopped to speak to people along the way before going into the shops on his planned visit”.
